Kevin Lanza

Kevin Lanza is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and Epidemiology at the Austin campus of UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. Trained in city and regional planning and public health, Kevin partners with researchers, practitioners, and community members to determine the effects of extreme heat and other environmental hazards on human behavior and health, and to co-design interventions—often nature-based—that promote positive outcomes. Major goals of his research include promoting safe physical activity among youth in the face of extreme heat, building heat-resilient transit systems, and eliminating environmental health disparities in communities in Africa. He currently serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee and as an author preparing the U.S. National Physical Activity Plan.
